This is the first reasonably serious picture I did as a Painter newbie. I used a travel photo as a reference, and chose to color with pastels because they behaved pretty much like they do in the real world.

Painter’s “paper color” feature, which allows you to set the currently selected color as the paper color that is revealed when the eraser is applied, is extremely effective with “pastel sketch on colored paper” type of work like this.
